Kiwi musician Ladyhawke is in with a real chance to clinch one of the UK’s biggest pop prizes.

Ladyhawke has been nominated in the category of International Female Solo Artist  up against Lady Gaga, Norah Jones, Rihanna and Shakira.

2010 heralds the start of a new decade and the end of one that had promised so much. Where is my hover board, flying car, Cherry 2000, replicator, transporter or even a scutter or two.

2010 is bringing a few projects to Splash FM. We are now broadcasting in Ostend on 107.0 and the streaming feed is all upgraded. A new aerial mast has arrived today, a new transmitter from England last week, news bulletins from INN in the deep south, new station imaging from Nelson and a new gig guide.

So keep tuned in for more updates.

Splash FM would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

To help celebrate the day we will be playing 6 hours of  Christmas music including some old classics along with something for the young ones and all commercial free.

Cupcake with Two Candles

Splash FM’s first test broadcast on 88,2 MHz was on the 22nd of December 2007. Two years on we are still running and still experimenting.

Thanks to those of you that have popped in and  had a listen and we look forward to even more in 2010. We shifted frequency to 88. 1 in 2008 to make room for Waiheke Radio. Today you can get Splash FM on 88.1 in Onetangi and on 107.00 from Ostend as well as live on the web.

Chris Knox

Chris Knox

As previously reported, back in June Chris Knox suffered a life altering stroke. A group of artists, fans, friends and musicians have joined together to produce Stroke – Songs for Chris Knox. Splash FM reckons that this has to be the best christmas present you can give. We have fantastic memories of Chris coming to Waiheke to support Waiheke Radio. So get in behind this worthy cause. CD’s can be purchased from the Chris Knox website.

Radio Inspectors recently visited the Dargaville area early to track and assess the source of a previously unaudited Low Power FM (LPFM) transmission.

The General User Radio Licence prescribes limits, conditions and a schedule on the operation of LPFM. Section 5 of the schedule specifies a maximum field strength of 112dBµV/m at a reference distance of 10 metres from the transmitting aerial in a 100 kHz resolution bandwidth (of the measurement receiver). Because the signal appeared stronger than expected, and an off-air audit does not require the assistance of the licensee, signal strength measurement was promptly commenced.

After correction for all factors, the measured field strength was calculated as 126dBµV/m at 10m within 100 kHz; 14dB over the limit prescribed. This indicated that the output of the transmitter was slightly over 10 Watts e.i.r.p. Also noted was excessive occupied bandwidth levels against both the LPFM licence schedule and the applicable Table 3 limits prescribed in the Radiocommunications (Radio Standards) Notice 2008.

As the transmitter was not operating in accordance with the licence conditions, an infringement fine was issued to the company responsible.
